Description:
Sara Constantine is one of the country’s most tenacious prosecuting attorneys—and she’s just secured a well-earned promotion. At first she’s thrilled. Then she finds out her new job involves prosecuting vampires and werewolves. And nothing prepares Sara for the shock she receives when she meets the first defendant she’ll be trying to put away: Lucius Dragos, the sexy stranger with whom she recently shared an explosive night of ecstasy.
When Lucius Dragos kisses the beautiful woman sitting next to him at the bar, he’s only hoping to blend into the crowd and avoid the perceptive gaze of the man he’s following…and planning to kill. But what starts as a simple kiss to secure his cover ignites into a fierce hunger that leads to an all-consuming passion. Charged with murder, Luke knows Sara will do whatever it takes to see him locked away—unless he can convince her that he’s not the monster she thinks he is. And that might mean making the greatest sacrifice a vampire can make.
My Review:
Welcome to Division 6, Preternatural Enforcement Coalition where they do not enforce human laws but laws of the Shadow Creatures, ancient laws that cannot be broken. When Blood Calls is the first in the new series The Shadow Keepers, I was fortunate enough to have this book in my paws. I love Luke and Sara, I like how they both are strong, and both have overcome tragedies in their lives.
Sara, a prosecuting attorney, found herself kicked off a case, and landed a promotion that she was not aiming for. She took the job her first case, murder, no matter if it is the one man she thought something could be nevertheless, she is bound to do her job rather if he is guilty or innocent.
Luke had to kill there was no way around it, for the victim hurt his ward, Tasha. Never would he have thought he would have met a woman like Sara. Luke knew that Sara would do her job no matter the cost even his death.
Throughout When Blood Calls, you meet an array of characters and a collection of supernatural beings. You get a taste of wild passion that grows between Sara and Luke. Told from several point of views you get a taste of others feelings and emotions. I only hope in future books I see the characters I have grown to like. I loved J.K. Becks take on daemons it was a first for me. I will not say what or how she wrote daemons to be because that will cause too many spoilers however, it was a brilliant move.
I pretty much figured out who did what by the middle of the book however, what I did not anticipate is who the true villain was. A shocker a true shocker never would I have thought that he/she/human/non-human would have been responsible. That is right no spoilers from me. Reading When Blood Calls was fresh to me a new take on the paranormal always gets my attention.
I defiantly will be reading the rest of The Shadow Keepers series, below I will list the release dates. When Blood Calls is worth keeping for me if you do not like hot steamy passion then perhaps this book is not for you but I enjoy hot steamy passion. I personally want to thank J.K. Beck for giving me the opportunity to read When Blood Calls and I will be more than happy to read any of your works. I will wait (un)patiently until I can hold another Shadow Keeper in my hands.
